Hyper acidity is closely associated to Amlapitta in Ayurveda which is caused by the imbalance of agni or the digestive fire leading to the vitiation of pitta dosha. According to Ayurveda, there are two types of Amlapitta as follows:
Urdhvaga amlapitta: characterized by the upward movement of pitta.
Adhoga amlapitta: characterized by the downward movement of pitta.
Treatment :
The Ayurvedic treatment of hyperacidity mainly includes dietary restrictions, internal medicines to pacify the aggravated pitta dosha. Persons with chronic history of hyperacidity may be advised to undergo some detoxifying Ayurvedic Panchakarma treatment procedures like virechana or vamana, as per the stage of the disease.
