Administering herbal tinctures to children can be tricky due to the taste and smell of pure herbs. Here are some child-friendly ways to give tinctures:

1. Dilute in a Drink

  • Mix the tincture with juice (apple, orange, or berry juice work well).
  • Stir into herbal tea with honey.
  • Blend with milk or plant-based milk (almond, oat, or coconut).
  • Add to cordial or smoothies to mask the taste.

2. In Food

  • Mix into honey or maple syrup and give by spoon.
  • Stir into yogurt or apple sauce.
  • Blend into nut butter (like almond or peanut butter) and spread on toast.
  • Add to jelly or gummies (homemade gelatin-based gummies with fruit juice).
  • Drizzle onto a small piece of banana or mix into mashed fruit.

3. Direct Administration (Diluted)

  • Use a dropper to place the tincture in a small amount of water before giving it directly.
  • Mix with warm water and a bit of honey and use a syringe to give small amounts.
  • If the tincture is alcohol-based, evaporate the alcohol by adding it to hot water and letting it cool before serving.
