Back Pain Ayurvedic Herbal Treatment

Back Pain Ayurvedic Herbal Treatment

Back pain is one of the most common reasons people go to the doctors or miss work and a leading cause of disability worldwide. Most people have back pain at least once. Usually it starts as an acute sharp pain or stiffness in the lower back. In most case this is relieved with absolute rest. Most of the people try pain balms, oils, hot fomentation and analgesics before they plan for a consultation. If not relieved with all these simple measures, bear in mind Back Pain is only a symptom and it can have many underlying reasons. Make sure to discuss your individual symptoms with your doctor to determine the correct diagnosis and treatment plan.

Causes of Back Pain:

Back Pain can come on suddenly and last less than six weeks (acute), which may be caused by fall or heavy lifting. Back pain that lasts more than three months (chronic) is less common than acute pain. Back pain often develops without a specific cause that your doctor can identify with a test or imaging study. Conditions commonly linked to back pain include:

  1. Osteoarthritis- osteoarthritis can affect the lower back; your spine's vertebrae can develop compression fractures if your bones become porous and brittle.
  2. Arthritis- In some cases arthritis in the spine can lead to a narrowing of the space around the spinal cord, a condition called spinal stenosis.
  3. Muscle or ligament strain- Repeated heavy lifting or a sudden awkward movement may strain back muscles and spinal ligaments. If you are in poor physical condition, constant strain on your back may cause painful muscle spasms.
  4. Skeletal irregularities- Back Pain can occur if your spine curves abnormally. Scoliosis, a condition in which your spine curves to the side, also may lead to back pain, but generally only if the scoliosis is reverse.
  5. Bulging or ruptured discs- Discs act as cushions between the bones (vertebrae) in your spine. The soft material inside a disk can bulge or rupture and press on a nerve. However, you can have a bulging or ruptured disk without back pain.

Back pain symptoms that need immediate medical concern:

  1. Back pain with high fever.
  2. Back pain suddenly after fall or injury.
  3. Back pain along with new bladder or bowel problem.

Pain arising from abnormalities of organs with the abdomen, pelvis or chest may also be felt in the back. This referred pain can be noticed in appendicitis, aneurysms, kidney diseases, bladder infections, pelvic infections, and ovarian disorders are a few. Even normal pregnancy can cause back pain.
