The skin on our face is usually the focus of attention for ourselves and for the people around us and because of this different skin marks cause frustration when people are not able to remove them. Understanding the nature of that mark can help remove them as quickly as possible. Hyperpigmentation is a common skin condition. Some parts of the skin become darker compared to the immediate surrounding skin. Melasma, Freckles are hyper pigmentation disorders of facial skin with localised discoloration.
Melasma is characterised by brown patches on face, usually found on either side of the nose that occurs most often in women. It is more commonly seen in people with darker complexion. It is influenced by hormonal changes. Hence found during puberty, during pregnancy, in people with hormone replacement therapy and oral contraceptive pills. It is triggered or worsened by sun exposure.
Freckles are small brown spots arising on the face and other sun-exposed areas. They are commonly seen in children and in fair-skinned people. They are influenced by genetic factors.
Ayurvedic View and Treatment options :-
According to the Ayurvedic classic, hyperpigmentation can be correlated with vyanga, nyasha, neelika. All of these skin conditions have been described under the kshudra roga which means minor diseases.
Nyasha is the painless, large or small patches, black or brownish-black in color found on any part of the body except the face.
Vyanga is painless, thin and black or brownish-black colored patches, commonly known as jhaai or chaahi, correlated with freckles or melasma.
Neelika is a patch present over the face or body and is extremely black.
In Ayurveda, effective formulations are available for skin diseases that purify skin & eliminate vitiated Tridoshas (Vitiated elements, especially pitta) from the body responsible for skin disorders.
